Panel: The Trouble with Tariffs (a/k/a Is it Time to Open Pandora's Box?)
It's generally believed in the U.S. that the existence of personalizable webcasters (e.g., Pandora, Slacker, Last.fm) is good for musicians and labels, yet some elements of the Canadian music industry seem to be discouraging such efforts. Is that perception correct? If so, is it rational behavior? Panelists to include CMRRA-SODRAC (CSI)'s David Basskin and Davis Wright Tremaine's David Oxenford, among others.
#5

Top Canadian market researcher Jeff Vidler (of Vision Critical) and RAIN's Kurt Hanson will present the findings of a brand-new multi-thousand-person research study of North American music consumers.

Pandora is the world's leading online radio brand, and its CEO, Joe Kennedy, will share his thoughts on the state of broadcast radio, streaming, and new media -- and what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur.

The hottest trend in Internet radio in 2009 was the medium's leap onto iPhones, BlackBerrys, other mobile devices, tabletop Internet radios, and more. Panelists to include webcasters, app developers, and device manufacturers, including Corus Radio's David Huszar and Myine's Jake Sigal.
